For the first time in NFL history, viewers will be able to see how draft prospects measure up against established NFL players. Ahead of the 2015 Combine, NFL Media enlisted RCS to help enliven Combine and Draft coverage across NFL Network broadcasts and NFL.com online shows with cutting-edge graphics. Collaborating closely with NFL Media, we developed an innovative workflow for transforming player attributes and performance data into comparative analytics graphics that illustrate which established NFL players most closely resemble draft players – from biophysical profiles through to performance. NFL first provided us with spreadsheets containing historical player performance data. We then built a custom database to house the information; a separate database to house data captured and logged live during the Combine; and custom graphics and scenes in the Viz engine that interface with a unique algorithm created by Nils Rudi and his team at Analy7ics AS that runs on 12 of our Bullet mobile graphics workstations. Subsequently, we created a script, that when executed locally runs the algorithm, to analyze, filter and compare information across both databases; generate the NFL player with stats that best match the combine player; and then display the results as graphics as desired throughout coverage.
