Eat, breathe and sleep soccer has been our motto at RCS over the last few weeks as we wrapped up LaunchPad Projects for new international clients BBC Sport, Eurosport and Ladbrokes Coral. In addition we helped Fox Sports Mexico develop and deliver a new graphics package for its soccer coverage on-air and online. Last month, Fox Sports Mexico made a splash with its coverage of the Liga MX Apertura season open, and we were on the ground to help to make it a success.
The network called us in early, as they sought out a way to enhance improve the fan viewing experience. They wanted to surprise viewers by shaking up the way traditional match information is presented during the broadcast. After giving us a quick rundown of their vision, our team of expert designers, programmers and producers set out to execute.
We spent a lot of time looking at digital experiences and video games for inspiration and then designed and built a series of flat, clean visuals that showcase match information in a nontraditional way. By the time the project wrapped, we’d designed and built more than 50 visuals – including a cool new progress timeline bar for highlighting important match developments, a rendered Hallmark that plays at the beginning of each production, a score bug, full screens, sliding side chips and more.
To simplify control of the graphics in production, our crew also devised a custom software application featuring a built-in switch for selecting the competition and changing the base color palette to a designated color theme for each match.
