The 2017 NCAA title game pitted two top seeded teams against one another – with No. 1 North Carolina returning after its 2016 loss to Villanova and No.1 Gonzaga making it to championship game for the first time in NCAA history. Audiences turned out in droves via CBS and Turner broadcasts and live streams to watch as North Carolina took home the coveted title, with viewership reaching an average of 22.998 million according to data collected by Nielsen, up 30 percent from 2016. RCS was called upon once again by CBS and Turner sports to provide a graphics assist for the tournament. We completed a graphics refresh that appeared in broadcasts and streams of the title game, as well as coverage of the entire March Madness tournament. Building on the NCAA March Madness package we developed for CBS and Turner Sports in 2016, we updated the eyebar layout and software to control it, enhanced the superbrackets and studio scoreboard, in addition to several other design updates from full screens to half screens, lower thirds, promos and over the shoulders.
